Based in Nailsea, a great day of running through the lovely Somerset countryside was had. The factory was demolished in 1997 to make way for housing.  This shot shows the underwater tracks used for torpedo test launching." /></a>

Progress was rapid, and by May 1863 piles were being driven for a viaduct across Smallmouth, parallel to the road bridge. The first train journey to the Island took place on the 25th May 1864, and the first scheduled service was on 9th October 1865. By 1950 the passenger trains to Portland were losing money, as more and more people preferred to use the bus service. The decision was eventually taken to end passenger trains to Portland. The last passenger train ran across Ferrybridge on the 1st March 1952, although goods trains ran on for another 13 years.  Part of the route of the old railway now forms 'The Rodwell Trail'." /></a>

The castle was completed in 1539 to guard the sea lanes between Wymouth and Portland.  Some of the stone possibly came from Bindon Abbey, near Wool, following Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries earlier in the year.  The remains are now unsafe due to erosion by the sea." /></a>

The former Central Trains inherited a fleet of 26 units from British Rail, comprised of sets 323201-222 and 323240-243. In November 2007, these were passed on to London Midland and are currently being internally refreshed and reliveried." /></a>

These units were built in 1992 – 1993 as Regional Railways’ answer to the Networker. They are 3 car units, but each vehicle is just over 23 metres long, so the unit length is almost 70 Metres, only 10 metres shorter than a 4-car Networker. Two GTO-Thyristor drive packages drive four Holec DMKT 52/24 motors, each delivering 146 kW. Good acceleration and top speed give the ability to operate commuter and long distance services, although currently 3 +2 seating is fitted for high density working. The centre vehicle is unpowered, being used for the transformer, pantograph, control equipment and the retention toilet." /></a>
